Laborers’ Local 199 works predominantly to help construction craft laborers improvetheir lives through collective bargaining, organizing, training programs, safer job sites, and the enforcement of workers’ rights—delivering better pay, stronger protections, and better benefits for our members.
Our work spans a wide range of construction sectors, including commercial building construction, utility and energy infrastructure, heavy and highway construction, residential construction and home performance, and environmental remediation.
To qualify, candidates must have at least 4,000 hours of experience in the following
areas (including but not limited to):
- Scaffolding
- Mason tending
- Excavation and grading
- Utility work (water, gas, sewer)
- Concrete placement or finishing
- Demolition
- Cutting and burning
- Highway work
- Asphalt placement
Additional requirements include:
- Being physically able to perform the duties of the trade
- Possessing a valid driver’s license
- Being at least 18 years old
- Passing a drug test in accordance with current standards
As a member, you will receive free, industry driven training classes designed to build on the experience you already have in the field. Our programs support continuing education, advanced certifications, and hands on skill development that strengthens the abilities contractors rely on every day. These courses help you expand your craft, stay competitive, and continue growing as a skilled construction professional.
